Antezana Hospital of Alcalá de Henares
The Antezana Hospital was founded in 1483 and it remains in operation today, making it one of the oldest hospitals in Spain.
According to tradition, Rodrigo de Cervantes, the father of the great writer, Miguel de Cervantes, worked as a surgeon in this hospital.
Its architecture is notable for the double eaves and the central courtyard with wooden columns and corridors that give access to the room where Saint Ignacio de Loyola was recovering after his long journey on foot from Barcelona to Alcala.
