Gate of Madrid of Alcalá de Henares
The Gate of Madrid (Puerta de Madrid, in Spanish) is located near the urban center, accessible from the traditional route that connects Alcala to Madrid. Madrid, in turn, has the Gate of Alcala, which corresponds to the other.
The Gate of Madrid replaced one of the gates of the old walled-town. It was rebuilt in the year 1788, during the reign of Carlos III. The building is of neoclassical style and is considered to be the last piece of architectural splendor in Alcala.
An interesting fact is that Gate of Madrid has been used as the set of some films. For example, the triumphant procession in the classic film "Spartacus" runs under the 'Roman' archway.
