Where to Eat in Alicante
Alicante's cuisine is based on the famous Mediterranean diet.Its main ingredients are seafood,fruits, vegetables and rice.
Banda rice, Alicante rice, or caldoso rice with fish are typical dishes of Alicante. Olleta, a based stew of vegetables and legumes is also popular.
Another very traditional dish is the 'Esmorzaret alacantí' a base of salted sardine, fried egg and dried red peppers and a variety of cocas (kind of pasty): amb tonyina coca ( tuna coca), coca boba (sweet), and a tomato and sardine coca.
Alicante also has some tradtional drinks, in particular 'la Paloma' (the Dove) which consists of dry anise and very cold water, and Cantabria, a herb liquor.
We cannot overlook the desserts. The turron is undoubtedly the most famous known, but it is also traditional to eat dates, nuts, anise rolls and a variety of ice cream.
