El Arco de San Martín of Burgos
El Arco de San Martín was one of the gates of the walled city
and was how the kings and distinguished visitors
made their way into the city of Burgos.
It was built by King Alfonso X el Sabio between centuries
XIII and XIV. Construction managers were mudejar masters builders
and their technique has been reflected in the horseshoe arch.
This was the entrance and exit (and out) for pilgrims on their
road to Santiago de Compostela.
