Bull Carnival of Ciudad Rodrigo
The Bull Carnival of Ciudad Rodrigo is the most popular festival of Ciudad Rodrigo and has been declared a National Festival of Tourist Interest.
The Bull Carnival is celebrated every year in conjunction with ´Carnival´: Carnival starts Friday and ends on Mardi Gras.
What makes these Carnivals unique in Spain is due the fact that during this time daily running of the bulls, bullfights and unleashings are held. Another one of the festival´s main attractions is the running of the bulls, but in this particular event it is done so on horseback on Sunday and the Bull of the fervent water (which gets its name because before the bull is released, bottles of fervent water liquor or "aguardiente" is distrubuted) which is celebrated on Mardi Gras well into the early hours of the morning.
