Walls of Ciudad Rodrigo
The walls of Ciudad Rodrigo went under construction in the twelfth century by Ferdinand II of León.
In the XV century Ferdinand III built new urban walls and added a second walled-perimeter with a total length exceeding two kilometers. Three centuries later the outer bastions were built out of sandstone.
Today the wall has five gates: the Sun, Amayuelas, the Count, the Santiago and the Sancti Spiritus gates.
