La Alberca
La Alberca is a small town in the Sierra de France, 77 km from Salamanca.
The town had been established in La Alberca before the arrival of the Romans, which is demonstrated by the pre-Roman castro, under which sits a part of town. From the Visigothic period there is little data, however it is known that these materials were reused to build the Ermita de Majadas Viejas (Hermitage of Old Majadas).
La Alberca was declared a Historic Artistic Site in 1940 becoming the first municipality in the Sierra de France with this honor.
Within the town are the two story homes with stone facades and a white exterior, giving the distinctive color of the Alberca. Near the plaza is the church, reformed in the eighteenth century.
