Gran Via of Madrid
The Gran Via is one of the main streets of Madrid. It begins in the Alcala Street and ends at the Plaza España. It is an important part of the city from the tourism and leisure point of view. It is famous for its cinemas, although in recent years, some of them have closed and others have been converted to musical theater, therefore the section from the Plaza de Callao is known as the Broadway of Madrid.
The section between the Network of San Luis and the Plaza de Callao is now home to international fashion boutiques.
The buildings of the Gran Via, meant to be part of a unified plan, are all a similar height and maintain the width of the street. However, having been constructed during almost a half of a century, it shows an obvious evolution in its architecture, from the historicist styles of the first tranche to the functionalism of the area around the plaza.
