La Villa Neighborhood of Requena
The Villa Neighborhood (Barrio de la Villa, in Spanish) is the oldest area of Requena and was where the first seeds of the town were laid.
In the Almohade era, la Villa aquired an urban structure corresponding to the prototype of he Hispano-Muslim cities. It lies on a raised cape, which offered natural defense. The outside is surrounded by a wall with defensive towers and various gates with access to the city. In 1966, La Villa Neighbourhood was declared a Historical Site of national character.
