New Cathedral of Salamanca
The New Cathedral was built between 1513 and 1733 in basically two styles: late Gothic and Baroque.
The idea of building a New Cathedral arose in the fifteenth century, due to increased population of the city, drawn by the University. At times the Old Cathedral seemed "small, dark and low." The idea for a new cathedralwas supported by the Catholic Ferdinand, who in 1509 ordered the execution of the project.
In 1950, they wanted to tune the organ. A specialist Belgian was summoned, who was astonished to learn that after nearly a century without being tuned it was in a perfect state, due to dry weather in the area.
