Bank of Santander
The Santander Group was founded in 1857 by the trader’s union. Emilio Sanchez Botin was the first union president in 1909. He was the grandfather of the current chairman of Grupo Santander, Emilio Botin-Sanz.
The Santander Group is the first Spanish bank and in 2008 it became the first profited bank in the world. The bank has branches throughout Europe and Latin America.
The building was built between 1946 and 1950 by the architect Salas and Maria.Today it is one of the icons of the city.
