Food Market of Santiago de Compostela
The present building where the Food Market (Mercado de Abastos in Spanish) is located was built in the historical center of the city in 1941, after the former town market was demolished in 1937.
Food Market has 6 sections that host 177 businesses in addition to up to 250 producers selling the product of their harvest, of Santiago and neighboring municipalities. The sections are grouped according to the locality of salesman.
The compound has many establishments with high quality products sold at a lower price than in the supermarkets. The traditional market is greatly appreciated by the citizens of Compostela and the tourists who visit the city.
