The Cathedral of Toledo
The Cathedral of Santa Maria de Toledo, also called Cathedral
of Toledo, was built between 1226 and 1493.
The Cathedral of Toledo is a Latin cross, it has
five ships and measures 120 x 59 meters. It was better structured in
XIII century to the style French Gothic, which was adapted to Spanish
taste. It has
five access doors, including the Puerta del Reloj,
being the oldest and the Lion Gate, which is the most
modern and was named for the lions that culminate the columns of
the fence.
In its interior there are paintings by artists like
Greco, Caravaggio, Titian, Goya and Rubens among others. Cathedral
Santa Maria de Toledo also has a cathedral treasury,
located in the old Chapel of San Juan Bautista which includes
liturgical objects, relics, books, canes and carvings. Highlighting the
Bible of Saint Louis of the King of France that was given by him to the
Cathedral of Toledo in the thirteenth century and for the custody of Henry of
Arfe, work of 1517.
