The Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes in Toledo
The construction of the Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes, belonged to
the Franciscan Order and was sponsored by Queen Elizabeth I
Castilla to make real mausoleum.
The Monastery is a valuable example of Elizabethan Gothic in Spain
and the most important building erected by the Catholic Monarchs. It was
built between 1477 and 1526 and gave way to structure the
mock funeral bier surrounded by pinnacles as a candle.
In 1926 it was declared a National Historic-Artistic Interest.
Stressing the cloister of the monastery, it is considered one of the
Spanish Gothic jewelry transition to the Renaissance, and the
church, a single ship and many symbols of the Kings
Catholics, like the eagle of St. John and the heraldic decoration. The
Monasterio de San Juan de los Reyes is dedicated to San Juan Bautista,
Queen Elizabeth whom It was devoted.
