Aljaferia Palace of Zaragoza
Aljafería is a fortified palace built in the eleventh century as an
Arab royal residence of Zaragoza.
It is one of the most important monuments of Islamic architecture
the time of the Taifa and is considered along with the Mosque of
Cordoba and the Alhambra in Granada triad architecture of the
Hispano-Muslim Iberian Peninsula. Mudejar Architecture in
Zaragoza has been declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
The most important rooms of the Palace were Aljafería
located on the north side, where we can visit the Golden Hall and
private mosque. El Patio de Santa Isabel was the garden that unified the
whole palace of taifa and where discharged north and south porches are found.
After the Christian conquest of Zaragoza in 1118, the Palace
Aljafería became the residence of the kings of Aragon. The first
major reform made the Ceremonious Pedro IV in the fourteenth century,
expanding the palatial rooms and building the Church of St.
The second reform took place between 1488 and 1495, it was built with
a second plant on the north wing of the palace to house for the
