Description
On this stage a choice between two routes arises at Sahagun: one passing through Calzadilla de los Hermanillos or the other which passes through Burgo Ranero. In this guide we have elected to do the route through Calzadilla because the one through Burgo Ranero runs along a footpath of the N-120 which in parts there passes a lot of traffic. We wanted to end this stage in Mansilla where the two routes converge and this is why the stage is so long.
(1)Terradillos de los Templarios-(2)Moratinos: 0-3.0 km
We leave Terradillos along a dirt track (photo 1) which ends at a small secondary road (photo 2) which we follow for 400 metres until we leave it onto a path which we take on our right (photo 3) and which leads us in the direction of Morantinos (photo 4).
(2)Moratinos-(3)San Nicolas del Real Camino: 3.0-5.5(2.5 km)
A dirt track (photo 5) leads us without further distractions to San Nicolas del Camino (photo 6).
(3)San Nicolas-(4)Sahagun: 5.5-12.4(6.9 km)
We cross San Nicolas a further along we meet the N-120 (photo 7) along which we continue until the 9.9 km (photo 8). Here the arrows direct us to take a right, to head to the shrine of the Virgen del Puente de Estilo Mudejar (photo 9). After the shrine the path turns left to return to the N-120. If you don’t want to visit the shrine we can continue along the N-120 until the arrows indicate a left turn in the direction of Sahagun town centre.
(4)Sahagun-(5)Calzada del Coto: 12.4-17.6(5.2 km)
We leave Sahagun across the bridge “puente del canto” (photo 10) over the Cea river and continue along the known N-120 until the 17.2 km (photo 11) where we have to choose which of the routes we will follow. If we continue straight we get to Burgo Ranero. If we take a right we will go to Calzadilla de los Hermanillos. In this guide we have chosen the second option. We cross a bridge over the motorway and soon after enter Calzada del Coto (photo 12).
(5)Calzada del Coto-(6)Calzadilla de los Hermanillos: 17.6-26.0(8.4 km)
We cross Calzada del Coto and take a wide dirt track (photo 13 and 14) which brings us directly to Calzadilla de los Hermanillos (photo 15).
(6)Calzadilla-(7)Mansilla:26,0-49,9(23,9 km)
We cross Calzadilla and go out along the secondary road CV-196 (photo 16) until the 29.6 km (17 km). Here the way continues straight ahead along a dirt path until Mansilla. But being such a long stage (23.9 km) we have the option of taking a left and following the road which after 3 km brings us to Burgo Ranero ( see the alternative route in green on the map).
Alternative route through Burgo Ranero
All of the path between Sahagun and Mansilla runs parallel to the N-120 (photos 18,19,20 and 21).
