Porto is the second most important city in Portugal after Lisboa. The city’s central history has been declared a World Heritage Site. Other cultural and historical attractions are the Clerigos tower, made by Nicolau Nasoni, the House of Music and the Serralves foundation dedicated to contemporary art, which is also the most visited museum in Portugal.
On the border just south of the Duero river there you will find the famous wineries, however this river border isn’t part of Oporto it borders Vilanova de Gaia. Both the country , Portugal and the wine from Porto (Vinho do Porto), or Porto a seces, owe their names to city that is Porto, which in itself means ‘port’.
