Santiago de Compostela
At the beginning of the IX century, the possible mortal remains of James the Apostle were founded in a wood called Libredón. Sometime after the discovery of the grave, the Episcopal see established at Iria (Padrón) moved to Compostela. The finding of the Sepulcher was the ground on which the city of Santiago de Compostela was consolidated.
Santiago de Compostela is one the most important Christian pilgrimage cities in the world and it is considered the third Holy City after Jerusalem and Rome.
Its 500-year-old University stands out as well as its Cathedral dedicated to St. James the Apostle, both of them are located at the famous Plaza del Obradoiro. At this square you can find too the km 0 of the Way of St. James.
