Stage 1: Granja de Moreruela-Faramontanos (19.2 km)
Granja de Moreruela (1) – Puente de Quintos (2) = 0-6.6 km
Puente de Quintos (2) – Faramontanos( 3) = 6.6-19.2 (12.6 km)
Elevation Gain: 275 m. Elevation Loss: 276 m.
In Granja de Moreruela the camino splits into two. To go to Sanabrés or Mozárabe, continue through Orense until Santiago, while the Vía de la Plata continues until Astorga where it joins with the Camino Francés.
After 200 meters we reach the sign where the paths (photo 1) separate and continue on the left towards Orense. The path is of good solid (photos 2 and 3) ground and we follow it until the Puente de Quintos, where it joins the road (photo 4 km 6.6).
Just past the bridge, on your left (photo 5 km 6.8) there is a small path that is part of the old camino. Now we have to follow the road 1 km to the 7.8 km mark where the road turns left towards Faramontanos de Tábara. If cycling continue straight along the road (photo 6 km 13.5) until you get to Faramontanos. The way along the road is 2.2 km shorter than the path for walkers.
The hostel of Faramontanos is in a hall which acts as suitable as a hostel.
