Description
On this stage we climb the peak Alto de A Canda, at a height of 1280 m, just where Galicia begins and the province of Zamora ends.
Leaving Lubián by bicycle you are recommended to follow the N-525 highway until Alto de A Canda. Although if you prefer there is another option: follow the road until after the Santuario de La Tuiza and there cross the highway from the elevated walkway to take the N-525 (see the alternative in green) (photo 2).
If you are going by foot cross Lubián and you will meet a steep descent that leads to the river Tuela and just past the A-52 to the Santuario de La Tuiza (photo 1 km 2.4).
Past Santuario La Tuiza continue until a picnic area at the foot of the highway.
If the path climbing to the A Canda is in good condition (best to ask in Lubián), we go down along a small paved road which we leave onto the camino that will lead us across the stream of La Tuiza. From this point we have a climb upwards until the top of the Alto de A Canda (photos 3 and 4).
If the road is in poor condition you can take the N-525 via the elevated walkway over the A-52 highway (see the alternative in green).
We arrive at Alto de Canda at km 6.7 and begin the descent of 1.2 km by road and through forest (photo 5 km 7.3) to the village of A Canda, a village without any services for pilgrims (photo 6 km 7.9).
We leave A Canda following the local highway OU-0952 (photo 7 km 8.6) to the km 8.9 (photo 8) where we leave the road and we take a path on the left. The path descends passing through a tunnel under the highway (photo 9 km 9.3) and we continue without leaving the path until Vilavella (photos 10 and 11).
We cross Vilavella (photo 12) and leave the village along a small path amongst weeds (photo 13 km 11.7) and we continue along the camino, descending (photo 14 km 13.4) until you reach the Chapel of Nuestra Señora de Loreto (photo 15 km 14.4) which is located at the entrance of Pereiro.
We leave the chapel, cross the highway and we arrive at Periero, a small, but well spread out town which we cross along its main street. At the town exit the main street becomes a highway which we leave after a few metres onto a path on our right.
We arrive at 15.8 km (photo 16), the lowest point of the stage from where we start a climb of 5 km (photos 17 and 18). At km 19.8 we enter the town of
