Staege 9: Villafranca-Torremejía (27.4 km)
Description
Up until the 27.4 km stage, we will not find a single town in between. Vineyards and wheat fields surround this area and again there is little shade.
We leave Villafranca de los Barros along San Ignacio street with the bullring on our left, continuing until we reach the road BA-002. Crossing the road we continue along a dirt track (photo 1 km 1.4). Most of this stage follows dirt tracks and narrow paths but presents us no difficulties (photos 2, 3 and 4). We are in tierra de Barros, surrounded by vast fields of vineyards.
At the 25.3 km stage, we find the Stream of Tripero (photo 5). At certain times of year we cannot cross through, therefore have to look for a point at which to climb over railway lines in order to cross the stream.
Just past the stream (photo 6 km 26), cross the railway lines via the bridge and enter Torremejía via Calle Gabriel y Galán, until reaching the Avenida Extremadura, which is actually the National 630 roadway. Torremejía is a city of passage and there are always many trucks on the main street. The Torremejía Hostal is on the other side of Avenida Extremadura, on Calle Grande.
