Stage 13: Alcuéscar – Valdesalor (25.9 km)
Sections
Alcuéscar – Casas de Don Antonio: 0-8.0 km
Casas de Don Antonio – Airstrip: 8.0-19,8 (11.8 km)
Airstrip – Valdesalor: 19.8-25.9 (6.1 km)
Description
We leave the hostal Alcuescar down the left hand street. We pass a football field on the right and continue along a well marked dirt track (photo 1 km 1.0).
At the 8.0 km stage (photo 2) we arrive at Casas de Don Antonio, a small village of 200 people with a bar. The camino road does not enter the town, but rather borders it to the right (photo 3 km 8.0), until we eventually arrive at the N-630. The road runs parallel to the N-630 (photos 4 and 5) until we get to the 12.6 km stage where it finally abandons the road. We follow the well marked path for a mile and a half, if we want to stay in Aldea del Cano, we need to turn right at this point.
At the 19.8 km stage (photo 6) we cross one of the most curious points of the camino: an airstrip where you can see planes landing and taking off.
We follow the well marked path (photo 7) each moment moving closer to Valdesalor and the National road 630. At the entrance of the town we find a hostel, however despite this being new, it is unfortunately not in use and has been abandoned (photo 8 km 25.3). If you decided to stay at Valdesalor, turn left onto calle Cristóbal Colón until the football field. The hostel of Valdesalor is close to the football changing rooms. Just next door is the pool which in the summer is much appreciated.
