Stage 15: Casar de Cáceres – Cañaveral (31.5 Km)
Casar de Cáceres – Alcántara Hostel: 0-21.5 km
Alcántara Hostel – End of the stage, deviation to Cañaveral: 21.5-31.5 (10 km)
Leaving Casar de Caceres down the main street we came, we pass a street called Larga Alta then another called Larga Baja. The tarmac road then turns into a dirt track (photo 1 km 1.8). The road becomes narrower, surrounded by beautiful landscape of acorn trees and cow pastures.
We cross 4 gates (photo 2 km 8.0) then continue along a dirt road (photo 3) until we arrive at the 13.7 km point (photo 4), where the path meets a wide track. After a short descent we are at 14.3 km point (photo 5) where we find a fence on the right and a path heading right.
Carry on further down the path if on foot, but if cycling it is better to take the N-630.
The trail runs parallel to the road with undulating terrain, until finally it meets the road at km 16.3 km (photo 6). Following the road N-630 (photo 7 km 18,4) we cross the river Alconetar and much later the Tajo, the longest river in the peninsula.
At km 21.7 we find the route leading to the Hostel de Alcantara on the left. After a 600 meter descent we find the Alcántara Hostel.
We recommend you follow the road until Cañaveral (photos 8a and 9a).
If walking we leave the road at this point, we find a steep hill that will take us to a small plateau on which we will continue the rest of the stage.
We have marked the end of this stage at the 31.5 km point in the deviation to Cañaveral (photo 8). If you decided to stay the night in the village turn left and descend to the town (photos 9b, 10b and 11b). After the sign there is a 2.5 km trek to the hostel Cañaveral. If we decide to continue, continue straight until Grimaldo, the next town along the way.
