Description

A little further on, there is a route of 600 meters that is impassible for cyclists so you will travel on foot. The only alternative for not going on foot, is not to enter in Montefurado and continue by the road (in the 28th photo of the previous stage, turn right instead of left and follow the rising road for 2 km: see orange mark in the map, until you get to the entrance of Hermidón (photo 7).

In order to follow the original route, after the detour to the right (photo 1 km 0), follow the arrows of the signposted slope streets until you reach the square of Montefurado, which has a crucifix in the middle, and keep on the left. You will get to an old corner house where you should turn right (photo 3 km 0.3), which will lead you to the end of the town and to the beginning of a grass path where there is a sign that says “Camino de Santiago de Sur” (photo 4 km 0.4).

This road will lead you to the main road after approximately 600 meters. Except from the first meters, the road is impassable for cyclists so you will have to get off your bike and make that part on foot since it is not really long.  From the exit of Montefurado, the beginning of the road is a steep slope. There is an unsigned point that might be confusing (photo 5 km 0.6) where you should keep straight on. The road goes from being a stone path to grass path and then turns again into a grass path (photo 6 km 0.8) until it comes out onto LU-933 road (photo 7 km 1.0) at the height of the town of Hermidón.

Cross the road and go into the town. Go through it (photo 8 km 1.1) until you reach again the LU-933 road (photo 9 km 1.1). Keep straight on down this road (photo 10 km 1.5) and ignore the several detours (photo 11 km 2.7 and photo 12 km 3.5) until you reach km 4,5 where you should make a detour to the right through a dirt path (photo 13) that is located next to an abandoned house.

A little bit further, this path passes between another group of abandoned houses (photo 14 km 4.9). Less than 100 meters further, the main dirt path continues to the right but you should take the hand-left grass path (photo 15 km 5.0). Following this path, you will pass a ditch (photo 16 km 5.4), afterwards the path turns back into dirt. Follow this path (shortly afterwards there is a fork where you should turn to the left (photo 17 km 5.9)). Go round the mountain (photo 18 km 6.0) until you reach again the LU-933 road (photo 19 km 6.4). Keep on the right side for about 100 meter more until you approach a new crossroads where you should turn to the right (photo 20 km 6.5) pass in front of the church and follow the road for 1 more km until you get to Bendilló (photo 21 km 7.5).

Go down the slope at the entrance of the town and turn left when you reach a house with a white gate (photo 22 km 7.8). Later on there is another unsigned fork where you should keep straight on (photo 23 km 7.9) until you get out of the town. This is when you reach the cemetery (photo 24 km 8.0). The road gradually turns into dirt (photo 25 km 8.3). Go down the mountain (photo 26 km 8.3) until you reach again the N-120 (photo 27 km 8.7). You should follow here the parallel path to the N-120 that has a steep slope and that comes out onto a road where should continue on the left (photo 28 km 9.0). This road leads to the LU-933 as well where should keep on the right (photo 29 km 9.5).

Approximately 200 meters later, there is a new fork that leads you to the left (photo 30 km 9.7) by a path that goes under the N-120 (photo 31 km 9.9) until you get to Soldón. Go through the town following the arrows (photo 32 km 10.0) towards the river. Cross the bridge (photo 33 km 10.3) and immediately after climb a new ascent of no more of half kilometer on your left. When you reach the N-120, follow the grass path parallel to the N-120 (photo 35 km 10.8) until you get to the next crossroads. Turn left (photo 36 km 11.3) and continue by the above road (photo 37 km 11.8).

Approximately after 200 meters, you will reach a new fork on the right: a tunnel under the N-120 (photo 38 km 11.9) that you should cross. Afterwards continue on the left and start climbing the ascent by a dirt path (photo 39 km 12.4) that will come out onto another path that you should follow on the right (photo 40 km 12.7) and leads you directly to Novais (photo 41 km 12.8). Go through the town (photo 42 km 13.0) and get out of it by a dirt path (photo 43 km 13.5) that will lead you to the Castillo de Novais (Castle of Novais) (photo 44 km 13.7).

About 1 km after, you should descend to being again parallel to the N-120 (photo 45 km 14.4). You will find a short but a very steep slope. When you reach a new fork on the road about 200 meters further, take the right-hand path (photo 46 km 14.6) that leads to the entrance road of Quiroga (photo 47 km 14.9). Continue on the right and after a long straight line you will approach a crossroads where you should turn left towards Quiroga (photo 49 km 15.7). Keep straight on down the road and after about 1 km you will reach the Hostel of  Quiroga (a refuge for pilgrims) (photo 50 km 16.4).
